December 23, 2009

Dear Friends,
Just a few weeks ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to attend an event honoring a dear friend, Dean Donald Brown (affectionately known as “DB”), who retired from Rutgers University after 33 years of dedicated service. DB was not only Zahara’s colleague at Rutgers but also my mentor when I was a student at the university. DB will be retiring to the beautiful island of St. Croix with his wife, Laura. That explains why, as you can see in the picture we took at his retirement dinner, the evening was centered on a Caribbean theme. The dinner was an incredible testament to his life and his legacy. Everyone in attendance that evening left with a powerful impression of how DB touched the lives of countless individuals and helped them to achieve their goals.

As the holiday season is underway, this is the perfect time to reflect on your accomplishments in 2009 and begin thinking about your goals for 2010. Have you accomplished what you set out to do this year? Where are you with the resolutions you declared at the beginning of the year? Many of us have achieved much more than we could’ve ever imagined while others may have more work to do. As we begin to close out 2009, continue to think about how you can still elevate your game. It’s never too late!
But, above all, don’t just think about the goals you will set for yourself. In the spirit of “DB,” take the time to also think about what you can do in 2010 to help others achieve their goals.
On behalf of our entire family, we extend warm wishes to you and yours for a wonderful holiday season.
Peace and blessings,
Zahara and Randal |

BREAKTHROUGH |

A Look Back at 2009

To aid in your reflective journey this season, we put together a "print montage”. Let’s take a look back at highlights from BREAKTHROUGH in 2009 and pave the way for a fearless 2010.
Win the Game -- Be entrepreneurial! Everywhere there are opportunities to improve a process, start a new trend or re-invent the wheel. Innovation is the key to finding successful opportunities in 2010.
Give Back -- “To whom much is given, much is expected”. As you reevaluate your resolutions and set new goals this month, reflect on how you can be a boost to someone else. The support you provide for others today might propel you towards your perfect opportunity.
Disconnect to Reconnect -- Ironically, as we become more connected through technology, we can lose touch with those right next to us. The challenge of technology: increasing face-to-face conversation and decreasing frenzied communication. Give your tech tools a “time out” and plug in some creative quality time with family and friends this season and in the new year.
Define Yourself -- It is impossible to please everyone. Remember that disapproval and opposition do not always equal failure. The ultimate judge of success or failure, strength of character or weakness, is in the legacy you leave behind for others.
So represent well and make history! Happy New Year!
