What makes you the most promising entrepreneur?

I have always been very serious with whatever plans I have and love to challenge myself with things that will benefit me and the people around me, and an example is been a double major student in Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering. I started as a Mechanical   Engineering student and seeing the impact IT is having on the fast emerging technological world I decided to add IT as a second major. This has helped me in getting different internships at one of the nation’s best companies including IEEE; had a summer internship as a Web Developer in 2007 and UBS Investment Bank; was an IT Analyst in summer 2008. My experience at these internships has really changed my views about the several technologies that emerge in our every day life from Cloud-Computing to Alternative Energy. As an aspiring entrepreneur, I have understood that Risk is the number one threat that an entrepreneur will be challenged with, and passing through that discouragement is a great step forward.

Mikhail Naumov

Name of Business: Opportunity.com
Industry: Information Technology - Web Service

Business Description:

The novel volunteer matching platform, Opportunity.com, provides the user with a unique online experience for the purpose of successfully finding the means to serve the public good. This free web-platform allows the user to search for, participate in, and be rewarded for volunteering. Not only does the platform serve as an interactive catalog of location-based volunteering opportunities, but it allows the user to log his or her volunteer hours in order to be rewarded by their company, organization, or their own conscience.

The ability to officially log hours is a significant competitive advantage that makes our website stand out from the near dozen small sites focused on displaying volunteer opportunities. By taking volunteer-matching to the next level we hope to drive our market share in a positive direction while maintaining a philanthropic philosophy and encouraging social responsibility. The concept will be grown organically from a Rutgers University start-up to encompass volunteer-matching on a national and later, global scale. By starting small the platform will test the market while staying manageable. With time, it will expand beyond traditional college related volunteering to include various institutions of public good. Organizations and institutions ranging from Girl & Boy Scouts of America to Federal Correctional Facilities will be able to utilize this platform to track the volunteer performance of their members.

Launch:
May 2009

Qualifications for being the top Campus CEO:

I learned the values of free market capitalism as a child growing up in Russia during the dynamic transition from Socialism to Capitalism. I witnessed and was nurtured in a fresh enterprising environment that allowed me to develop significant entrepreneurial skills before I turned ten years old. Since coming to the United States, the Land of Opportunity, I was able to begin transforming my visions into reality.

I developed and ran several small-scale retail operations as a student in High School. Later, as a Freshman at Rutgers University I recruited a team and established the Rutgers Entrepreneurial Society, an organization dedicated to empowering young and aspiring students to tackle entrepreneurial challenges as they develop their own ventures and become responsible members of our community. By taking risks, working diligently and utilizing my networks I was able to build a solid foundation for the Rutgers Entrepreneurial Society, which I know will live long past my graduation day.

Executive Summary:

The novel volunteer matching platform, Opportunity.com, provides the user with a unique online experience for the purpose of successfully finding the means to serve the public good. This platform integrates four distinctive pages that identify the different aspects of volunteering.

This website is intended to fulfill a thriving need for communication between world-developing organizations and responsible individuals yearning to help build stability within our world. In order to accomplish this, users will be provided with a platform which displays volunteer opportunities, as well as connections to the organizations which provide them. In addition, the platform will allow users to present their affiliation with an outside group such as a volunteer student organization or a service group. Thus, users will experience a simple solution for logging their volunteer hours and being appropriately compensated.

In order to facilitate this process, each user will be given an opportunity to create a mini-profile that qualifies their distinctive interests as related to volunteering. In addition, each volunteer opportunity will be posted by a volunteer organization which has its own profile as well. The minimized start up costs include: hosting of a web domain, coding of the platform, as well as initial branding and advertising.
